Work Place Visit by School Students

GESIPA UK-Keighley hosted another successful event and interesting day with students from local School.

GESIPA UK-Keighley hosted another successful event and interesting day with students from local School.

As part of 'Work place Visit' experience , 10 students aged 13 and 14 visited GESIPA UK-Keighley to experience the 'World of work'.

Two sessions of 5 students per session included GESIPA factory tour, 2 workshops and understanding 'A day in the work life' of GESIPA personnel from different departments; design, quality, production, etc.

One of the workshops was run in partnership with a local medical engineering company to give students an idea of different types of jobs available in different sectors of engineering.

The second workshop run by GESIPA was for students to find the appropriate rivet from different variations provided and build a  ladder  using the  Taurus process control tool.

They were given a brief description of all the rivet variations that were provided for the task. They were also given the technical specification sheet of the ladder stating shear load and  tensile strength requirements  and were told to check the specifications and features of the rivets before choosing the correct rivet for the application.

"Students were excited and really enjoyed riveting the ladder. They were successful in selecting the correct rivet for the application and using process control tool helped in encouraging them as they could see if the joint was good or not." said Martin Priestley, Head of Business Unit Equipment, GESIPA UK-Keighley.

"I enjoyed today and gained valuable experience", " I realised there is much more to engineering than I thought", " The event was really interesting and made me want to try out some of the things they do at GESIPA" said some of the students when asked about their 'work place visit' experience.
